Denim…Not the Fabric of My Life

I volunteered to help the current Director of Training & Development move some training material out of a storage closet at work. She suggested that we wear jeans instead of business clothes to move the material. As soon as I heard the word jeans I cringed. Am I the only woman who despises jeans? I have never been a fan of jeans. I find them very binding and they always ride up in inappropriate places (come on I can’t be the only person that thinks this about America’s most beloved pant). If I wear jeans I can’t sit still and I am constantly moving around trying to find a comfortable seated position. Don’t even think about wearing jeans out to dinner if you plan to actually eat. They always seem to create a muffin top once you consume the tiniest morsel of food.

I have tried so hard to become a jeans lover. Each season Express sells a new cut and I get suckered into purchasing another pair of jeans with the hope that the new pair will fit differently. I persuade myself in the dressing room that the baggy cut, slim cut, editor cut or relaxed cut contours my body and that I’ll wear the new pair all the time. Wrong! I have 8 pairs of barely worn jeans stacked in my closet (and I got rid of several pairs before the move). Among the stack are Citizens of Humanity, Sevens and skinny jeans from a designer boutique out here in So Cal. I have clearly invested both time and money in my search for the perfect jean. I am convinced it doesn’t exist.

What’s a girl to do? I have found relief in leggings. Thank you 80s for leggings (you can keep the crimped hair, acid wash jeans and obnoxious neon colored clothes)! Leggings are comfy and can be dressed up or down. My favorite combo is a sweater dress (I think I will have to pack these away out here in LA really soon…what a shame that it is getting warm), leggings and boots.

I would love to know that I am not alone. If you have been harboring bad feelings about denim let me know. It is ok to let your true feelings come out. Some of you may have been pretending to love jeans when deep down you really hate them too. It feels good to rebel against the norm!

Also, let me know if you have recovered from jeans hatred. I don’t believe a great pair exists, but since I am a shopping addict I am willing to continue the search. If you have found an amazing pair let me know. I’ll justify buying them as research for my blog.

Okay, Yes I two feel the same way, I also think it has to do with us being short. I really hate the look of jeans and tennis shoes, plus then my jeans are almost too long and drag on the ground. I understand and know there are occasions that call for this, say volunteering, sporting event, whatever... but I look like a short stumpy boy. I HAVE to wear heels with my jeans, or boy do I just feel so casual and not myself. We have denim Fridays here, and really I bring out the denim Capri’s, denim skirts, etc., but just can’t do the jeans. And Yes I have about 10 pairs or so as well, but me and jeans just are not the best of friends. I guess my butt just hasn’t found the right pair either to make me look flawless. And the muffin top comment it’s true, cause you have to buy tight jeans, almost to the point of laying down to put them on to give your figure the right look your going for, and then …..you must watch all food intake, OR wear a baggy shirt to hide the dreaded belly bulging that will soon take pass. SCARY, I female secret that MUST remain hidden. YUCK.

I found your blog via another blog and had to comment on this.
I am not a jean fan either, but for a different reason. I have a hard time fitting into them. Pretty much every pair I try on now-a-days, they look fine in the front but there's this big gap in the back so you get a good view of what I'm wearing under them. LOL.
No joke, I own one pair of jeans (I had a couple others but they got too small--one pair was shrunk, the other I had since about 8th grade LOL). I also only own, 4 pairs of other pants (casual non-denim and slacks).
I'm personally, more of a skirt/dress girl. LOL
Ciao!
